Phishing alert – don't get hooked!
We receive a number of phishing emails daily.
Please stay alert - fraudsters are always on the prowl for another unsuspecting victim.
Identity theft – a “phishy” way of stealing your personal information
Phishing is a way of stealing your personal information and using it to defraud you.

- Fraudsters send you an email that looks like it is from a reputable institution such as your bank
- They then ask you to click on a link in the email or on the attachment which opens a fake website
- Beware – the fake website looks just like the real thing.
- You are then asked to enter personal details such as PINs, passwords or credit card details.
- Once all the sensitive information is obtained, they use it to defraud you
Ways to spot a “phishy” email:
Use the following tips to identify a phishing attack:
- Think before you click
Move your mouse over the link in the email. This shows the actual web address that you will
be redirected to.
- Spell it out
It is always safer to type out the full website address into your browser than to click on a link
- Avoid “phishy” places
Don’t do your online banking at public access points such as internet cafés or on unfamiliar computers
Always remember:
We will never ask you to update personal information like PINs or passwords via an email or over the phone
Your security begins with you
We remain committed to protecting your information but we also need you to ensure that you have also taken effective security measures when transacting over the Internet.
